Summary A premier,
established logistics and customs brokerage firm is seeking a driven Customs
Entry Writer / Import Operations Specialist to join their dedicated Customs
Brokerage team. This organization offers a highly supportive work environment,

detail-oriented candidate with a strong foundation in import operations,
documentation, and broker coordination who is eager to step into or further
develop their career in customs entry writing. The ideal candidate possesses
direct experience working with import documentation, interacting with customs
brokers/carriers, and understands the core mechanics of U.S. Customs and
Partner Government Agency (PGA) compliance. Essential
Duties & Responsibilities
- Prepare and process
import customs entries accurately and in a timely manner through CBP
systems. - Handle a wide range of
entry types, including consumption, transportation, warehouse, temporary
import, and PGA-regulated shipments. - Review commercial
invoices, packing lists, bills of lading, and other import documentation
to ensure absolute compliance and accuracy. - Classify complex
products utilizing the Harmonized Tariff Schedule (HTS). - Coordinate closely with
U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and various Partner Government
Agencies (such as FDA, EPA, FCC, DOT, USDA, and others as required). - Monitor shipment
releases, examinations, holds, and official requests for information. - Communicate proactively
and professionally with customers regarding shipment status, documentation
requirements, and regulatory updates. - Maintain strict
compliance with all federal regulations, customs laws, and established
company procedures. - Work collaboratively
with operations teams, carriers, terminals, and government entities to
ensure smooth, efficient cargo movement. - Identify, document, and
escalate potential compliance concerns when necessary. - Maintain highly
organized and accurate records in accordance with both regulatory
standards and company policies. -
Qualifications
- 2-4
years of hands-on experience in Import Operations, Brokerage Support,
Logistics Coordination, or Entry Writing. Candidates with a strong
operational background handling import documents and broker communication
who are looking to step into entry writing are strongly encouraged to
apply. - Proven
expertise handling core import paperwork (Commercial Invoices, Packing
Lists, House/Master Bills of Lading, Pre-alerts). - Practical
familiarity with U.S. Customs procedures, basic HTS classification
concepts, and awareness of CBP/PGA clearance requirements. - Experience
working within standard industry logistics software/tracking platforms
(e.g., CargoWise, Magaya, ACE) and general Microsoft Office proficiency
(Excel, Word, Outlook). - Familiarity
with air/ocean import movement and local JFK airport or NY/NJ port
recovery workflows. - High
attention to detail, strong multi-tasking abilities in a fast-paced
environment, and clear written/verbal communication skills. - High
school diploma or equivalent required.
Preferred
Qualifications
- Prior
direct experience drafting or submitting entry summaries as an Entry
Writer or Customs Brokerage Specialist. - Certified
Customs Specialist (CCS) designation or progress toward certification. - Active
U.S. Customs Broker License (LCB). - Advanced
proficiency in CargoWise.
The base pay range listed reflects what we reasonably expect to offer for this role. Actual pay may vary based on location, experience, and performance.
