Role Overview
VersAbility Resources is seeking an experienced and dependable Lead Custodian to provide day-to-day operational leadership while working alongside custodial employees at our Yorktown Government Contract location.
This is a hands-on lead position responsible for coordinating daily work assignments, monitoring quality and productivity, training employees, and helping ensure custodial services meet government contract requirements. The Lead Custodian serves as a primary resource for employees during assigned shifts and supports continuity of operations in the Contract Manager's absence.
The ideal candidate leads by example, takes pride in producing high-quality work, communicates effectively, and is comfortable balancing custodial responsibilities with employee guidance and operational support. This position provides daily work direction but does not have full supervisory authority over hiring, discipline, performance evaluations, or other employment decisions.

What You'll Do
*Perform custodial duties required under the applicable Government Contract Statement of Work.
*Provide daily work direction and guidance to assigned employees.
*Coordinate work assignments and operational workflow with the Contract Manager.
*Monitor work quality, productivity, and service delivery to ensure contract standards are met.
*Train and coach employees on custodial duties, equipment uses, safety procedures, and quality expectations.
*Assist with onboarding new employees and cross-training existing team members.
*Monitor attendance, work performance, and productivity and communicate concerns to the Contract Manager.
*Conduct quality inspections and complete required reports and operational documentation.
*Promote a safe, organized, efficient, and customer-focused work environment.
*Operate custodial equipment, tools, and machinery safely and ensure equipment is properly maintained.
*Assist with shift coverage, scheduling adjustments, and workflow coordination as directed.
*Maintain professional relationships with customers, government representatives, employees, and leadership.
*Identify and help resolve routine operational issues and escalate concerns when appropriate.
*Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
*High school diploma or GED preferred.
*Minimum of two years of custodial experience or experience in a related operational environment.
*Previous experience as a lead worker, trainer, shift lead, or in another informal leadership role preferred.
*Experience in government contracting, custodial services, facilities, manufacturing, warehouse, production, food service, or a similar operational environment preferred.
*Ability to provide guidance, coaching, and on-the-job training while leading by example.
*Knowledge of custodial procedures, quality standards, equipment operation, and workplace safety.
*Strong communication, customer service, organization, and problem-solving skills.
*Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and exercise sound judgment.
*Basic proficiency with computers, Microsoft Office, and contract-specific technology.
*Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record may be required based on contract needs.
*Ability to obtain and maintain any background investigations, credentials, certifications, or security requirements established by the government contract.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements
This position operates in a government custodial environment and requires the Lead Custodian to work alongside employees while coordinating workflow, monitoring quality, and supporting contract performance. Work may be performed indoors or outdoors and may involve exposure to varying temperatures, noise, cleaning products, equipment, and other site-specific conditions.
The position requires prolonged standing and walking; frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, and climbing; and regular use of custodial tools and equipment. Employees must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds, visually inspect completed work, and respond promptly to changing operational or safety needs.

Schedule
Work schedules are based on assigned shifts and government contract requirements. Specific days and hours will be discussed during the interview process. Candidates must be flexible to support schedule adjustments, shift coverage, and changing operational needs as required.

Compensation Notice: Compensation for this position is established by the applicable government contract and/or wage determination. The posted pay reflects the fixed rate authorized for this position and is not subject to negotiation except where permitted by applicable law or contract requirements.

In addition, to the fixed rate, this position pays a health and welfare benefit of $5.09 per hour.
