Setting: Hybrid (2 days remote, 3 days Onsite)


Location: Sojourn - 1453 16th Street, 1st Floor, Santa Monica, CA 90404


Schedule: Monday - Friday (Mornings/Afternoons/Evenings) On-Call - schedule may vary to include occasional both weekend days or varying shifts due to programmatic need


Status: Full-Time/ Exempt/ Management

Summary:


Sojourn's mission is to provide trauma-informed and culturally responsive services to individuals and families who have experienced domestic violence; and empower communities with the knowledge and support to build healthy relationships.


Working under the supervision of the Senior Director, the Director of DV Community Services will provide support to Sojourn Support Services site. The Director will coordinate and provide supportive services for Survivors of Domestic Violence and their children. The Director will adhere to safety guidelines set by DV best practices and standards; following a Trauma- Informed, Empowerment Model. The Director will represent Sojourn support services in community facing activities as described in the description below. Driving is required for this position.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


Under the supervision of the Senior Director, the Director of DV Community Services will:



  • Serve as the primary site leader, responsible for the site and its daily operations
  • Ensure the implementation of all agency initiatives and that the project's work aligns with wider agency and department strategic goals
  • Report on the activities of the project to the Executive Leadership Team and represent the project in all inter-agency initiatives
  • Act as the fiscal guardian for the program, managing the budget, contracts, and purchasing, and signing off on all project spending, working collaboratively with the finance department
  • Be accountable to all contractual deliverables, ensuring they are met, if not exceeded, and continually communicating with funders and the grants and contracts department to ensure they are negotiated, maintained, and appropriately and accurately reported
  • Ensure compliance with domestic violence confidentiality requirements, mandated reporting boundaries, funder requirements, safety protocols, documentation standards, and agency policies
  • Assist with funding source development and grant-writing, including providing program narratives as requested
  • Coordinate with Sojourn shelter, housing, interim housing, outreach, behavioral health, and other The People Concern programs to ensure survivors receive coordinated service
  • Coordinate and maintain Drop-In Center staffing schedules and hours of operation to ensure consistent, accessible, trauma-informed services for survivors and their families
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and support to all team members including management, case managers, and support specialists
  • Liaise with outside stakeholders such as community partners, funders, housing authorities, etc. and represent the site and agency
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community partners and serve as liaison among sponsoring/participating agencies
  • Serve as Chair for the Westside Anti-Violence Authority to conduct community organizing and coalition building in working to end child abuse, sexual violence and intimate partner violence in our community
  • Develop and maintain relationships with local middle and high schools and colleges in order to bring violence prevention curriculum to students
  • Operate comprehensive dual programs to outreach and educate the community and prevent violence in the home and community
  • Provide trainings, including twice-yearly 40-hour Domestic Violence training; New Employee Orientation - DV; Bystander Intervention; Healthy Relationships; Safety Planning; and workshops on gender-based violence, gender stereotyping, healthy masculinity, dating violence, and related topics
  • Ensure integration of training for all The People Concern programs as it relates to Intimate Partner Violence
  • Coordinate event tabling at health fairs, college campus events, and community events
  • Provide development and oversight of Sojourn support group curriculum and support group service provision
  • Provide direct assistance to survivors as necessary, including driving clients when needed


Staff Supervision:



  • Hires, trains and supervises Coordinator, Outreach & Education and Senior Case Manager ensures regular meetings, uses Monthly Supervision Tool (or other tools as developed)
  • Provide weekly supervision to all direct reports
  • Provide coaching, performance evaluations, corrective action support, and professional development support.
  • Develops and implements strategic goals for the O&E program; reviews these strategic goals annually and makes mid-course adjustments as necessary
  • Provide oversight of operational components including accurate, up-to-date data collection, quality assurance and contract management adhering to guidelines set by DV best practices and standards. Includes but is not limited to:




    • Adherence to confidentiality standards
    • Daily operation of support services programs support groups in compliance with program/contract compliance as per guidelines and requirements mandated for DV support services programs, regularly reviewing logs, records, and data.
    • Assist with client crisis as needed (conflicts and complaint resolution, safety planning, etc) using trauma-informed de- escalation and mediation techniques.
    • Work in coordination with Senior Director to provide leadership development and in-service training for staff, programmatic development, to ensure implementation of empowerment model, harm reduction and trauma informed care methodologies and DV best practices in every aspect of outreach/education, client care and service;
    • Ensure timely and accurate documentation of support group services through case notes, incident reports, etc




  • Train, supervise and manage scheduling for support services volunteers and Interns within the guidelines of The People Concern personnel policies, adhering to trauma-informed, harm reduction, non-violent philosophy; including, provision of monthly supervision for support services volunteers
  • Approve and submit accurate support services volunteer timesheets
  • This position includes on-call status and shift coverage as needed (shift coverage may include coverage at Sojourn shelter sites)
  • Flex schedule to provide monthly (/mornings/afternoons/evenings/nights/weekends) support and training to Support Services support group staff and volunteers (including coverage of shelter sites when needed)
  • Provide services back-up support and program coverage as needed, including emergencies, vacation & sick time in cooperation with support services staff; - must be prepared to sub another's role when needed (including occasional shelter shifts)
  • Oversee normal operating and credit card / petty cash expenditures within the program's budget;
  • Ensure development and maintenance of working relationships with other community agencies; including presentations, trainings, and community events.
  • Liaise with law enforcement, medical facilities, social work departments and County Departments, prosecutors and victim's assistance programs providing consultations and Domestic Violence Education/training.
  • Constant communication and coordination between Sojourn programs through Directors' teamwork;
  • Use of own vehicle to occasionally transport clients and/or complete field-based work-related tasks in own car as necessary
  • Attend meetings, agency-wide retreats, and other agency collaborative events as assigned
  • Co-Faciliate with Director of DV Shelter Services monthly All-Staff meetings
  • Other duties as assigned.



Specific Duties-Operations:



  • Ensure that support services property and its surroundings is well maintained and clean.
  • Regularly inspect facilities to verify clean, sanitary conditions.
  • Report any maintenance issues or need for repairs to supervisor in a timely fashion.
  • Regularly inspect facility to ensure it is in working order.
  • Train support services staff in proper protocol for site maintenance.
  • Participate in monthly safety and fire drills



Other Duties



  • Responsible for safe storage and responsible and ethical use of all donated or purchased materials
  • Required to lift and carry heavy bundles and items, donations and residents' belongings
  • Required to transport clients and clients' belongings
  • Occasional court accompaniment / translation services
  • Responsible to assist staff in maintaining a culturally responsive environment
  • Use of own vehicle; responsible to carry all auto insurance legally required in State of California
  • Vehicle must be maintained in acceptable condition
  • Required to be fingerprinted and screened for tuberculosis
  • Other duties as assigned



Qualifications:



  • High School Diploma or GED or Equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience in social services program, case management and/or staff supervision preferred
  • Experience and/or professional education in community organizing for social change, preferably in the field of violence prevention
  • Experience in interagency collaboration and coalition-building
  • Strong leadership, public speaking and communication skills with an ability to develop, facilitate and implement programmatic policy/procedure
  • Trustworthy, honest, and team player.
  • Ability to supervise program participants and staff with dignity and respect at all times. Must engage participants and staff in positive interactions and troubleshoot problems as they surface.
  • Must exhibit sound decision-making ability related to crisis and safety planning
  • Ability to work with a diverse population and implement cultural responsiveness
  • Ability to handle communications with public, TPC staff and volunteers via phone or in person.
  • Literate with the ability to operate basic computer functions.
  • Able to maintain confidentiality.
  • Able to supervise sanitary conditions at all times in all areas.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours as needed, and handle emergencies which may occur daily, nightly, or occasionally overnight.
  • Understanding of Domestic Violence Survivor population and their specific needs for services
  • Use of own vehicle; responsible to carry all auto insurance legally required in State of California
  • Willingness to receive 40-hour Domestic Violence Training
  • Proficient in Microsoft WORD, Excel and PPT
  • Ability to work as part of a team or independently



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Domestic Violence support services experience
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Bilingual - Spanish/English strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of presentation software - such as Canva, PowerPoint, Prezi
  • Knowledge of non-profit, community-based organizations



Work Environment:



  • Combination of field and office environment
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, bend; occasionally lift or carry up to 15 lbs.
  • On occasion walk or drive to different local sites
  • Will necessitate working in busy and loud environments
  • Will be exposed to elements like cold, heat, dust, noise and odor
  • May need to bend, stoop, twist and sit throughout the day
