General Summary of Position The Director of the Institute for Public Health Emergency Readiness (IPHER) is the Institute's strategic and operational leader. The mission of IPHER which is part of the ER One Institute is to provide preeminent national leadership to improve the ability of our nation's healthcare providers hospitals public safety agencies government organizations and general communities to plan for respond to and recover from the medical consequences of disasters epidemics and terrorism. IPHER will create conduct and sponsor innovations and creative thinking in operational readiness obtain grant and contract funding and conduct research education and training and policy development in emergency preparedness at the local regional and national healthcare system level. Hospital preparedness will be a special focus of the Institute and include insuring that the Washington Hospital Center is in a state of preparedness that is a model and best practice for all healthcare facilities across the country.
