Scope of Position

This role in the Reality Capture & Digital Layout team of the Virtual Construction group leverages the use of Building Information Modeling (BIM) technologies to support project teams to pursue, design, manage, and execute projects. This position utilizes Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) workflows for digital layout, laser scanning, laser scan registration, drone operations, and other innovative technical skillsets. This role requires travel to jobsites to conduct laser scanning, drone surveying operations, and control setup.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Digital Layout
    • Provide model-based layout coordinates and coordination drawings to field surveying teams onsite for layout of self-perform concrete, steel, utilities, and other systems.
  • Reality Capture
    • Scan, Process, register, and publish laser scan point cloud data for coordination.
  • Drone Operations
    • Create flight plans, conduct flights, and process drone data.
  • 3D Modeling
    • Convert point cloud information to building information models for design and construction detailing, including creation of parametric content.
  • Innovation
    • Support innovation through research and testing of new technologies.
  • Standards
    • Work closely with Mgr. of Reality Capture & Digital Layout and Manager of Reality Capture to develop and maintain standards relating to process and procedures.
  • Support VDC staff as needed:
    • Field Layout
      • Support one off layout needs in the field
    • Coordination
      • Develop and maintain integrated project coordination models, and create clash detection reports based on analysis of multiple design disciplines and trade subcontractor 3D models.
    • Collaboration
      • Participate in virtual collaboration meetings with project team, while leveraging the coordination model as a decision-making tool to solve complex coordination issues.
    • Estimating
      • Extract quantity data from Revit building information models (BIM) for estimatingteams, while cross-referencing contract drawings and specifications for modelaccuracy.
    • Business Development & Scheduling
      • Create 4D/5D construction sequence animations software for proposals andconstruction teams.

To thrive in this role you will need:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction Technology.
  • Minimum of 3 Years of experience in BIM/VDC Technologies in AEC industry related to reality capture & digital layout is preferred.
  • Proficiency with CAD Software is required.
  • Proficiency with laser scanners preferred.
  • Proficiency with robotic total stations preferred.
  • Proficiency with drones is preferred.
  • Proficiency with scan registration software is preferred.
  • Ability to organize and manage multiple deadlines, establish and meet schedules, and maintain focus in order to work in a fast-paced environment on multiple projects.
  • Understanding of AEC industry and project workflows (schematic design, design development,construction documentation phases).
  • Understanding of laser scanning and surveying fundamentals.
  • Understanding of different needs and responsibilities of the delivery team (architects, engineers, estimators, project managers, and field staff).
  • Strong communication skills, interpersonal skills, and presentation abilities.

Environmental Factors and/or Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, this position is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, and arm, hand and finger dexterity, including the ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard, operate equipment and read application/form information. The associate frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
