Salary Grade: T22

Salary Range: $40,000-$47,000
A variety of important factors are reviewed by HR when considering salary, including job duties, the applicant's education and experience, all relevant internal equity considerations, department budget, and funding source.

Job Details:
*This position will be on-site full-time.
*This position requires a background check prior to commencement of service.

Job Summary:
Primarily responsible for receiving patients in a courteous, efficient manner and supporting physicians, nurse practitioners and nurses in the delivery of health care by performing a variety of medically related tasks in a primary care outpatient student health service practice including general medicine and gynecology visits. Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests. Administers specified medication within scope of practice by subcutaneous or intermuscular injection, and notes time and amount on patients' charts. Performs other duties as assigned. Care is rendered primarily at Main Campus Student Health Services. However, MA may be assigned to any of the two (2) campus sites: Health Science Center or Main Campus.

REQUIRED AND PREFERRED

Required Education & Experience:
*High School graduate
*Completion of a Certified Medical Assistant Program required.
*2-3 years' experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.
*Excellent communication and organizational skills.
*An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:
*Must be organized, detail-oriented, and able to complete tasks in a timely manner.
*Must have a customer service orientation and the ability to interact with professionalism and tact under stress.
*Must be proficient with applications such as Microsoft Office.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Essential Duties:
*Escorts patients to exam rooms. Obtains and records vital signs, height, weight, temperature and chief complaint. Prepares patients for examination in conformance with provider's needs. May require minimal lifting of patients.
*Documents patient care given in electronic medical record.
*Utilizes a computerized medical information system to schedule appointments and to enter data for patient demographics, visit, diagnosis, procedures, immunizations and charges.
*Provides health education to student patients.
*Controls flow of patients in and out of exam rooms.
*Assists with exam when requested to by a provider or patient.
*Prepares lab specimens and lab slips. Obtains dipstick urinalysis as requested by physician.
*Performs CLIA waived laboratory tests such as urine pregnancy and dipstick analysis as requested by physician or nurse practitioner.
*Provides routine injections as ordered by physician or nurse practitioner.
*Stock patient exam rooms and assure that the rooms are maintained in good order.
*Assist with vision and hearing screenings when needed.
*Obtain oral or axillary temperatures as directed.
*Answer telephones, recording and relying on accurate information.
*Assist with referral completion, when needed.
*Assist providers and nurses with general care, as requested
*Participates in staff meetings, quality improvement projects and committees as appropriate.
*Assists in the coordination of outreach in cooperation with other departments, where appropriate, for specific medical issues, e.g., immunization programs.
*Promotes health education and illness prevention initiatives throughout the University.
*Participates in the maintenance of an appropriate formulary by making recommendations for medical and surgical supplies.
*Performs other duties as assigned
