The Opportunity with McKinstry

We are looking for an Assistant Superintendent to be a part of our Energy division in Bozeman, MT. The Assistant Superintendent builds foundational field leadership capability under the direct supervision of a Superintendent or Senior Superintendent. Supports daily project execution, documentation, safety compliance, and subcontractor coordination while progressing toward independent ownership of a Superintendent role, including on projects within McKinstry's Montana Projects. Additionally, some responsibilities you will have include:

  • Performs carpentry and jobsite tasks as needed.

  • Performs housekeeping and keeps work areas clean throughout the project, removing trash and debris.

  • Support superintendent and project team in picking up supplies and materials as needed.

  • Keeps all materials on the project organized.

  • Traveling to various jobsites is required.

  • Supports daily jobsite documentation, logs, and Superintendent daily reports under direct supervision.

  • Assists with submittal review, RFI drafting, and punch list tracking through to closeout.

  • Coordinates scheduling logistics with subcontractors and vendors under the direction of the supervising Superintendent.

  • May shadow client-facing meetings and progressively takes on direct client interaction as competency builds.

  • Supports jobsite set up, tear down, and equipment receiving and tracking.

What You Need to Succeed at McKinstry

  • Willingness to obtain OSHA 30 certification within 6 months of assuming position.

  • Working knowledge of, or strong aptitude to quickly learn, Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Project; exposure to Primavera P6 a plus.

  • Foundational understanding of construction sequencing, the commercial building process, and OSHA standards.

  • Intermediate working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.

  • Exposure to or strong interest in renewable energy and decarbonization project types (solar, battery storage, electrification, building commissioning) preferred.

  • BA/BS in Construction Management, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architecture, or Facilities Management, or equivalent experience, preferred.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated coachability.

The pay range for this position is $33.32 - $47.34 per hour; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This role is considered non-exempt and will be paid hourly. Base pay information is based on market location. A bonus may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
