Description

The Experience Design Supervisor (art focus) is a creative leader who develops big ideas, visual identities, and campaign expressions that make complex healthcare information clear, compelling, and memorable. This role leads art direction across integrated campaigns for healthcare professional, patient, and consumer audiences, shaping work from early concept through final execution while ensuring every expression is strategically sound, visually distinctive, and aligned with brand and regulatory standards.

The role is rooted in conceptual art direction while bringing strong digital fluency to how ideas come to life across web, mobile, social, video, and non-traditional channels. The ideal candidate has a sharp eye for typography, composition, visual storytelling, and craft, along with hands-on proficiency in Figma and an understanding of how campaign ideas translate into intuitive, engaging digital experiences.

Success in this role requires close partnership with copy, strategy, Experience Design, UX, technology, medical, account, and production teams. The Experience Design Supervisor confidently presents and sells creative thinking, guides Art Directors and Senior Art Directors, and helps establish a high standard of creative excellence across multiple brands and accounts.

Responsibilities
  • Lead visual and verbal concept development, in partnership with copy, for integrated healthcare campaigns. Shape the big idea and its expression across HCP, patient, and consumer touchpoints.
  • Translate audience insights, research, positioning, messaging, and campaign strategy into distinctive creative platforms and visual systems.
  • Establish and maintain the visual vision for assigned brands, including art direction, typography, imagery, identity systems, and overall design craft.
  • Develop master campaign assets and guide their expression across channels.
  • Use Figma to create and refine digital layouts, work within established design systems, and collaborate efficiently with Experience Design, UX, and technology partners.
  • Apply a practical understanding of experience and interaction design to digital executions, helping ensure campaign ideas translate into clear, engaging, and accessible experiences.
  • Create and refine digital layouts and simple click-through prototypes in Figma when needed to communicate the creative concept; partner with Experience Design and UX on deeper interaction design and experience development.
  • Partner closely with copywriters, strategists, Experience Designers, UX designers, developers, technologists, medical partners, account teams, and producers to deliver cohesive, executable solutions.
  • Present creative work clearly and persuasively to internal teams and clients, articulating the idea, strategic rationale, visual approach, and role of each execution within the larger campaign.
  • Drive assigned work through creative review and production, incorporating direction from creative leadership, managing revisions, and maintaining quality and accuracy throughout.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop Art Directors and Senior Art Directors through thoughtful feedback, hands-on guidance, and active support of career growth.
  • Help assign tasks, manage workloads, review work, and inspire teams to deliver against high creative and operational standards.
  • Oversee creative across several projects, brands, or accounts, ensuring consistency with brand guidelines, campaign strategy, and agency standards.
  • Proactively identify promotional and organic growth opportunities that bring additional value to clients and expand the creative potential of the business.
  • Stay current with healthcare communications, culture, design trends, digital platforms, emerging technologies, and responsible AI-enabled creative tools.
  • Assist Experience Design leadership in the mentorship of team members and remain deeply involved in their career development
Qualification Requirements
  • 7+ years of relevant experience in art direction, advertising, visual design, or a related creative discipline, including experience leading integrated campaign work.
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating conceptual thinking, visual and verbal ideas, campaign development, brand systems, master assets, and high-quality execution across traditional and digital channels.
  • Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Photoshop, Illustrator, and InDesign.
  • Working proficiency in Figma, including creating and editing layouts, using components and auto layout, working within established design systems, and collaborating in shared files.
  • Experience designing for digital platforms such as websites, mobile experiences, social channels, and other interactive or non-traditional media.
  • Strong understanding of typography, composition, visual hierarchy, identity development, design theory, and production craft.
  • Practical understanding of UX, interaction design, accessibility, responsive design, and user-centered design principles, with the ability to collaborate effectively with specialists in those disciplines.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills, with the ability to explain and sell creative ideas to multidisciplinary teams and clients.
  • Experience mentoring creative talent, reviewing work, managing workloads, and maintaining quality across multiple concurrent projects.
  • A working understanding of healthcare communications, medical terminology, regulatory considerations, and the importance of precision and accuracy in healthcare advertising is preferred.

As one of the world's ten most-awarded healthcare advertising agencies, GSW is hell-bent not to replace the same old with the same old. This is achieved through a provocative premise - if other brands communicated the way healthcare brands do, how many customers would they have? GSW turns against this premise through discovery of beneath-the-surface customer insights that we impact with stories, simplicity and authenticity.
