The Material Handler is responsible for receiving, storing, and distributing material, tools, equipment, and products within establishments. Job Duties
- Loads and unloads product to and from delivery vehicles and designated storage areas
- Reads production schedule, customer orders, work orders, shipping orders, or requisitions to determine items to be moved, gathered, or distributed
- Conveys materials and items from receiving or production areas to storage or other designated areas
- Sorts and places materials or items on racks, shelves, or in bins according to predetermined sequence, such as: size, type, style, color, or product code
- Fills requisitions, work orders, or requests for materials, tools, or other stock items and distributes items to production workers or assembly line
- Assembles customer orders from stock and places orders on pallets or shelves, or conveys orders to packing station or shipping department
- Marks materials with identifying information and records amounts of materials or items received or distributed
- Weighs or counts items for distribution to ensure conformance to company standards
- Arranges stock parts in specified sequence for assembly by other workers
Education Requirements
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous warehouse or material handling training is beneficial.
- High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalency
Experience Requirements
- Experience moving, organizing, loading, or unloading materials in warehouse or manufacturing environments.
- Ability to accurately identify products, labels, inventory locations, and shipping documentation.
- Knowledge of safe material handling practices and workplace safety procedures.
- Ability to operate pallet jacks or other material handling equipment as required.
- Strong attention to detail, organization, and dependable work habits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous warehouse, shipping, receiving, logistics, manufacturing, or distribution experience is preferred.
- Experience operating forklifts, pallet jacks, RF scanners, or warehouse management systems is beneficial.
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures, warehouse documentation, or Lean warehouse practices is considered an asset.
- Individuals who demonstrate reliability, teamwork, attention to detail, and safe work habits are well positioned for success as a Warehouse Material Handler.
- Ability to perform these operations using units of American currency and weight measurement, volume, and distance * Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one- or two-step instructions * Ability to complete duties with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables
Physical Capabilities
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive material handling tasks throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull materials weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to safely move products using manual or powered material handling equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently in warehouse or manufacturing environments while following established safety procedures.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel.
- The employee is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, or crouch.
- The employee is frequently required to sit, reach with hands and arms, and talk or hear.
- The employee regularly lifts and/or moves up to pounds.
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles.
- The employee is regularly exposed to ambient lighting and can be exposed to extreme heat and extreme including climates consistent with outside weather conditions.
- Operating in cold room environments is frequent.
