The Principal, Account Operations is a senior individual contributor responsible for the operational health of one or more accounts or contract portfolios. Under the direction and guidance of leadership, this role owns the full lifecycle of account operations, from staffing readiness and personnel onboarding through offboarding, contract transitions, and organic growth support.
The Principal maintains authoritative staffing and operational data, monitors contract and personnel readiness, and coordinates cross-functional activities across Delivery, Growth, Contracts, and People Operations. Using advanced operational expertise and influence, this role helps protect delivery continuity, strengthen customer confidence, mitigate contractual and performance risk, and position accounts for recompete and growth.
Primary expectations of a Principal, Account Operations include:
- Uses strong influence and operational expertise to drive efficiency, improve best practices, and support the health and expansion of assigned accounts
- Guides and supports operations staff and program leadership, directly or in partnership with Operations Leadership, Vice Presidents, and Senior Vice Presidents
- Leads individual and team meetings and communicates important account and company updates
- Prepares and presents recurring reporting on account operations, staffing, risks, and overall account health to leadership
- Serves as the account-level subject matter expert for staffing, onboarding, offboarding, and personnel transitions, acting as an escalation point when these activities create contractual, delivery, or CPARS risk
- Owns end-to-end contract onboarding and mobilization for employees and subcontractor personnel, including badging and PIV sponsorship, background investigations, government system access, contract-specific training, and start-date readiness, with a focus on reducing time-to-productivity
- Manages offboarding, role changes, and contract transitions while minimizing disruption to delivery and customer confidence, including access revocation, GFE return, records documentation, and proactive backfill planning
- Maintains the authoritative account-wide staffing roster and labor category mapping, ensuring alignment with contract requirements, approved staffing plans, and personnel readiness
- Translates staffing data into a forward-looking view of available capacity, bench strength, hiring needs, and anticipated lead times to support program, capture, and proposal planning
- Partners with program leadership and customers to identify unmet needs, potential scope expansion, and adjacent work within existing contracts, supporting activities such as ceiling increases, option exercises, task order modifications, and in-scope white papers
- Manages the recurring operational cadence of assigned accounts, including monthly status and staffing reports, deliverable tracking, subcontractor compliance, and modification support
- Identifies and organizes performance evidence, operational metrics, and past-performance information that can support recompetes and new business pursuits
- Serves as a strategic partner to operations and program leaders, providing direct and indirect support to account management and senior leadership
- Monitors account information and workflows to ensure appropriate Operations, Vice President, and Senior Vice President involvement in key projects, risks, and decision-making
- Serves as a communication point for leadership updates related to corporate objectives, policies, processes, and operational priorities
- Leads or supports change management activities designed to improve account-level processes, consistency, and operational efficiency
- Supports the preparation, review, and analysis of account budgets, forecasts, and financial reporting
- Reviews account progress, aggregates operational reporting, identifies emerging risks, and briefs Operations Leadership, Senior Business Unit Operations Directors, Vice Presidents, and Senior Vice Presidents
- Represents assigned accounts in corporate-level working groups and cross-functional initiatives
- Builds and maintains strong cross-departmental relationships that support account leadership and organizational success while promoting an inclusive and positive work environment
- Ensures operational systems and processes function effectively and, in coordination with the Quality Assurance Manager, support applicable ISO and CMMI quality standards
- Although this position is remote, team members in this role are expected to attend in-person team events, customer meetings, and/or partner meetings as required by business needs
Basic Qualifications
- Internal Requirement: Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of relevant experience
- Relevant years of experience may be substituted for education
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities across complex accounts or contract portfolios
- Advanced leadership and influencing skills, including the ability to drive outcomes across teams without direct reporting authority
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced experience developing and implementing strategies that improve operational efficiency at the account or portfolio level
- Advanced experience building and maintaining cross-functional relationships across Delivery, Growth, Contracts, People Operations, and other business functions
- Advanced experience negotiating, influencing, and navigating complex business and operational scenarios
- Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment on matters of significance
- Direct experience managing or supporting federal contract staffing plans, labor category mapping, and personnel readiness reporting
- Direct experience with federal contractor onboarding and offboarding processes, including personnel security, badging/PIV sponsorship, background investigations, and government system access
- Experience supporting contract modifications, option exercises, ceiling increases, or similar contract actions within a federal contracting environment
- Prior government or government contracting experience required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with federal personnel security systems such as e-QIP, DISS/JVS, or NBIS
- Familiarity with CPARS and federal past-performance documentation practices
- PMP or similar program/project management certification
- Experience contributing to capture, proposal, recompete, or organic growth efforts
- Experience supporting multiple federal contracts, task orders, or complex contract portfolios
- Experience working across prime contractor and subcontractor relationships
