Position Overview:
The School of Kinesiology, College of Education and Human Development, University of Minnesota
Twin Cities is seeking a dynamic candidate for a non-tenure-track, Lecturer (Academic Professional) position in the area of Kinesiology with emphasis on Social Science. Specifically, we seek a candidate committed to excellence in teaching and learning whose skills and knowledge can complement current program offerings in the undergraduate and graduate programs. Priority will be given to candidates who can teach in the following areas: sport and exercise psychology, sport sociology, sport history, and/or health promotion and wellness. The professional instructional position is teaching focused with additional duties related to curricular leadership, student mentorship/supervision, and service to the department, college, and university.

Our Kinesiology and Physical Activity & Health Promotion academic programs include approximately 350 undergraduate majors in the B.S. program, 100 undergraduate minors, and 90 graduate students in M.Ed., M.S., and Ph.D. programs. Job Responsibilities:

Teaching (80%):
* Teach the equivalent of 6 courses per academic year (3 each fall and spring semesters, 2-4 credits per course).
* Provide leadership to undergraduate curricula evaluation and innovation.
* Teach core courses in the undergraduate programs including large lecture courses.
* Teach other undergraduate and graduate courses as needed.
* Develop and prepare course content, materials, and syllabi.
* Instruct courses using diverse modes of delivery.
* Evaluate student performance and grade student materials such as exams, papers, and projects.
* Respond to student inquiries and meet with students.
* Supervise graduate teaching assistants.
* Participate in on-campus professional development training relevant to teaching and learning.
* Develop partnerships that provide experiential learning opportunities for students.
* Supervise field experiences and mentor students on career readiness.
* Mentor undergraduate and graduate students in directed study, independent study, and honors program experiences.
* Advise graduate students at the master's level.
* Serve on graduate examining committees at the master's and doctoral level.

Service (20%):
* Participate in school, college, and University service activities.
* Serve on and lead departmental, college and University-wide committees and work groups as requested, assigned, or initiated.
* Coordinate undergraduate and/or graduate programs.
* Support colleagues in nomination for institutional awards via letters of nomination and recommendation.
* Serve at the community, local, national, and/or international levels as appropriate.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:
* Earned PhD or other terminal degree in Kinesiology or a closely related discipline. (ABD considered with degree completion by time of appointment)
* Can consider earned MS in Kinesiology or closely related discipline with an additional 2+ years of relevant experience in pedagogical or industry settings
* Demonstrated teaching experience and effectiveness in higher education.
* Teaching competencies, industry experience, and/or research expertise in introductory courses in kinesiology social science oriented courses.
* Demonstrated strengths in writing and communication skills.
* Commitment to service at the professional, university, departmental, and community levels.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.

Preferred Qualifications:
* Ability to teach across the kinesiology curriculum
* Experience in mentoring or advising undergraduate or graduate students.
* Record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and refereed presentations at professional conferences.

Program/Unit Description:
The School of Kinesiology advances interdisciplinary knowledge about physical activity and human movement in order to promote lifelong health and well-being in local, national, and global communities. Our innovative research, high-quality teaching, and collaborative outreach focus on the science and management of physical activity and human movement within contexts such as exercise, health care, and sport. We offer three undergraduate majors serving over 500 students (BS in Kinesiology, Sport Management, and Physical Activity and Health Promotion), an honors program, three minors (including a newly launched Esport Management minor), and a coaching certificate program. Over 150 students enroll in six graduate degree programs (MEd in Sport and Exercise Science, Sport Management, and Physical Activity and Health; MS and PhD in Kinesiology with seven emphasis areas). More than 4000 students per year complete courses in our comprehensive Physical Activity Program. Our faculty comprise 13 tenured or tenure-track faculty and 10 full time non-tenure track faculty, and house 14 research labs and centers. The work of the school is supported by 11 staff including CSBU (civil service and bargaining unit) and Professional and Academic Staff. The school is one of seven academic units in the college (see cehd.umn.edu and kin.umn.edu).

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $60,000 - $67,000 per year ; depending on education/qualifications/experience

time, the initial pay may not reach the maximum of the range. This approach ensures
