The USC Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track (RTPC) faculty position at the rank of Research Assistant Professor to conduct innovative research in infectious diseases, antimicrobial pharmacology/pharmacokinetics, and antimicrobial resistance. The USC Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences is one of the nation's leading centers for pharmacy education, pharmaceutical sciences research, and clinical innovation. The School is recognized for its interdisciplinary approach to advancing human health through discoveries in drug development, precision therapeutics, regulatory science, health economics, and translational research. Faculty within the School collaborate extensively across the University of Southern California and with national and international partners to address critical challenges in healthcare and pharmaceutical sciences. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary research environment focused on understanding and combating multidrug-resistant bacterial infections through innovative approaches in antimicrobial drug development, pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics (PK/PD), molecular microbiology, and host-pathogen interactions. Research efforts will encompass the design and evaluation of novel antimicrobial therapies, optimization of antibiotic dosing strategies, characterization of resistance mechanisms, and translational studies using clinically relevant experimental models. The successful candidate will lead a productive independent and collaborative research program focused on antimicrobial therapeutics and multidrug-resistant bacterial infections. Responsibilities include conducting and disseminating high-quality research, pursuing external funding opportunities, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and mentoring students. The candidate will also support the strategic and operational goals of the research program and contribute to laboratory leadership, including research compliance, animal protocol development, regulatory requirements, and management of research resources. Qualifications and Requirements: Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in either Molecular Biology, Microbiology, Pharmacology, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Biotechnology, or a closely related field and demonstrate a strong record of scholarship in infectious diseases and antimicrobial research. Candidates should have expertise in PK/PD analysis, molecular biology, microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, in vitro infection models, cell culture systems, and in vivo pharmacology studies. A minimum of 85% of time and activities will be spent in research and scholarship with additional but limited commitments to teaching/mentoring, and school, university and professional service. Preferred qualifications include demonstrated success in grant procurement, an established record of peer-reviewed publications, experience in statistically informed experimental design and biostatistics, and expertise in preparing publication-quality scientific figures and data visualizations. Candidates should possess excellent written and oral communication skills and demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, multidisciplinary research environment. Compensation and Benefits: The University of Southern California offers a competitive salary and benefits package within an academic environment based on the candidate's experience, accomplishments, and continuous funding sources. The University's benefits options include health, dental and life insurance; tuition assistance; disability and retirement plans; credit union membership; and participation in cultural and social events, as well as access to athletic and recreational facilities. The position does not lead to consideration for tenure. Merit reviews are conducted annually from which salary enhancements are decided. Re-appointment and eventual promotion within the research track are expectations based on performance assessment and longitudinally via administrative review, with department evaluation, dossier submission and internal/external review. The Research Track Appointments and Promotions Guidelines provide the necessary guidance and specifics. The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000 - $112,000. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations. Application Procedure: The position is available immediately. Review of applications and interviews for selected qualified candidates will continue until the position is filled. Qualified individuals are requested to apply online at https://usccareers.usc.edu, and are requested to upload a current curriculum vitae, a letter of intent/personal statement, a teaching philosophy statement, and the names of five professional references with current contact information.
