We seek an exceptional and deeply collaborative mid-career investigator and leader, with advanced psychometric expertise, who will contribute methodological depth and breadth to our existing portfolio, including across the lifespan, settings (e.g., clinical care, research, global), content areas (e.g., dementia, development science, learning sciences, and rehabilitation medicine) and measurement modalities (e.g., patient-reported outcomes, performance measurement, digital and sensor-based measures). About Medical Social Sciences and the Division of Outcomes and Measurement Science The Department of Medical Social Sciences (MSS) (www.mss.northwestern.edu) is a vibrant transdisciplinary community of approximately 80 faculty scientists united by a shared mission: to harness the social and behavioral sciences to advance fairness, innovation, and impact in health. Our faculty lead nationally and internationally recognized programs of research spanning the full translational continuum. MSS is organized around four complementary scientific divisions that reflect a public health approach to improving health: Outcomes and Measurement Science, Determinants of Health, Intervention Science, and Implementation Science. Faculty collaborate extensively across Northwestern University, Northwestern Medicine, the Robert H. Lurie Comprehensive Cancer Center, the Institute for Public Health and Medicine, community organizations, health systems, policy makers, and industry partners. The Outcomes & Measurement Science Division works to better human health through state-of-the-science psychometric measurement and evaluation. We are the home of numerous measurement systems including PROMIS, the NIH Toolbox, Mobile Toolbox, Neuro-QoL, MyCog, and the Baby Toolbox. Our faculty of quantitative/qualitative psychologists, clinicians, and informaticians are pushing the frontiers of health measurement, having created and now distributing hundreds of patient reported outcome and neurological measures (cognitive, motor, sensory, emotion and academic), for use around the world, and the platforms to deliver them (web, tablets, smartphones, REDCap, Epic and many other electronic health record systems), delivering assessments to millions of patients in clinical settings, and available in more than 6,000 institutions for clinical research. Qualified candidates must hold a PhD, MD, or equivalent degree and will have extensive expertise in one or more of the following areas: item response theory; linking and equating, machine learning and artificial intelligence as applied to continuous health data, e.g., digital biomarkers; latent variable modeling methods such as structural equation modeling, network psychometrics, integrative data analysis and meta-analysis; intensive longitudinal designs, and more. The ideal candidate will have a strong publication record, an established history of external research funding, and evidence of a growing trajectory as a leader in outcomes measurement. The candidate will have a record of successfully mentoring and training the next generation of health outcomes measurement scientists, including early career faculty, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows. Responsibilities include serving as a methodological leader in the development, sustainment, and implementation of programmatic research across the division, department, and the Feinberg School of Medicine. The successful candidate will mentor junior faculty and trainees, foster interdisciplinary collaborations, and accelerate the translation of research into practice through scholarly dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and publication in leading peer-reviewed journals. The start date is negotiable, and the position will remain open until filled. The expected base pay range for this position is $150,000-$175,000. Northwestern University has provided a pay range representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for the position. The pay offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors including (but not limited to) the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate including years since terminal degree, training, and field or discipline; departmental budget availability; internal comparators; and external market pay for comparable jobs. When applying, please upload a CV and cover letter describing your interest and alignment with the position. Also upload this completed list of references form to suggest the names of individuals who could write letters of reference on your behalf.
