Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
Facilities Planning and Design is comprised of design professionals who are responsible for the planning, design and management of all capital improvement projects. The projects include new buildings, repairs and renovation of existing buildings, major campus infrastructure, interior design, open space improvements and preservation of historic properties. Facilities Planning and Design ensures that the projects adhere to the principles of adapted land use plan and campus development guidelines.
Position Summary
A SIGN-ON BONUS OF $7,500 IS AVAILABLE FOR THE SUCCESSFUL APPLICANT OF THIS POSITION PAID IN 2 INSTALLMENTS WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE:
$3,750 WITHIN 30 DAYS OF HIRE DATE & $3,750 12 MONTHS AFTER HIRE DATE.


The primary purpose of the Engineer is to provide mechanical engineering design, system assessment, system analysis, and offer mechanical engineering solutions to existing campus buildings and infrastructure. This position works with a team of architects and engineers to evaluate the mechanical systems of all campus buildings, and develop engineering solutions and reports to address the mechanical system deficiencies prior to capital improvement projects. This position troubleshoots mechanical systems deficiencies in all University buildings and develops plans, reports, and cost estimates prior to project design and construction. Once the construction documents are submitted, they are reviewed by this position and comments are sent to the designer for implementation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in the engineering discipline related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience Some positions may require licensure by the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Working knowledge of building system design, operation and construction, creative design abilities, codes and ordinances, preparation of construction drawings and specifications, cost estimating; ability to maintain effective working relationships with architects, engineers, contractors, and institutional officials; ability to communicate both orally and in writing to establish and maintain effective working relationships; knowledge of computers and project management; working knowledge of facility and building architectural/engineering systems; working knowledge of facility management software; advanced knowledge of principles and theories of mechanical engineering systems as it relates to buildings and infrastructures; knowledge of building codes and standards; ability to estimate costs for engineering projects; and ability to analyze data and produce engineering reports. NC Driver's License or ability to obtain one prior to start date.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Analytical data reasoning, computer programming and computer-aided design, ability to operate various test equipment.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Ascend/descend stairs in campus buildings, mechanical rooms, and roofs.

**ELIGIBILITY FOR SIGN-ON BONUS

The selected candidate for this position may be eligible for a sign-on bonus. Qualified applicants must apply and be selected from the candidate pool of this posting and meet the State policy following requirements:

To be eligible for a Sign-on bonus, an individual must not have worked in a probationary, permanent, or time-limited appointment in the last 12 months as an employee in North Carolina state government, including but not limited to the judicial system, state executive branch agencies, and the university system in a position subject to the State Human Resources Act.

A newly hired permanent full time or permanent part-time (more than 20 hours a week) employee are eligible for a sign-on bonus (this will be prorated for employees working more than 20 hours and less than 40 hours per week).
