Summary of Position
The Web Editor is part of the Communications and Marketing team and produces sustainable, standard compliant websites and online communication applications for sites such as plymouth.edu through use of proficient design and development skills as well as knowledge of online communication principals. This position works collaboratively to provide ongoing support, updates and enhancements for web-based software applications, with a strong focus on user experience, accessibility and client specifications. This may include training of campus partners to properly maintain departmental pages on the website.

Other minimum qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Graphic Arts, Computer Science, Communications or related field and three years of professional experience in a web production environment. Solid knowledge of HTML5, CSS, JavaScript, Drupal and WordPress, as well as development tools such as Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Fireworks.* Demonstrated comprehension of UX and UI design fundamentals as well as ability to create responsive sites. Ab1iity to develop and test web content constructed with W3C compliant code and cross platform and cross browser compatibility. * Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks and priorities. * Effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.
Additional Preferred Qualifications

  • Understanding of web technologies such as PHP, SQL, XML, RSS, JQuery and others.
  • The ability to work with a wide range of constituents, including novices, IT and communications staff, and senior leadership.
  • Experience developing websites in Wordpress, Drupal or other content management systems.
  • Proven customer service experience
  • Experience incorporating social features into Web sites, as well as media communities such as YouTube, Flickr, and Facebook.
  • Ability to work independently under limited supervision and as a part of a highly structured team
  • Experience in higher education.

Duty/Responsibility

  • Work with the software development team to design, develop, maintain, and support new web sites and online communication applications from their foundation using content management systems like Drupal and languages such as PHP and SQL.
  • Optimize architecture, navigation, search parameters and content to ensure optimal usability for multiple audiences while adhering to brand and industry standards and guidelines.
  • Manages daily operations of projects as assigned. This may include development and maintenance of project management information and documentation.
  • Migrates content from legacy websites to CMS based pages/sites.



Duty/Responsibility

  • Ensures regular testing of function and links and updating of time-specific content.
  • Tests website usability with end users.
  • Responds in a timely manner to questions and requests for assistance; provides professional advice and assistance to faculty and staff regarding the creation or revision of website pages and information.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves website problems.
  • Functions as the advocate for web-based communications within the university community; maintains state of the art knowledge in internet-based technologies, and provides insight, advice, and recommendations on future concepts, development, and direction of college web services. Provides implementation team leadership for major web service projects/initiatives.
  • Helping optimize the user experience on the website and assisting with content creation using best practices through SEO compliance.
