Minimal Qualifications:
* High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.)

* One (1) year of specialized or technical training.

* Minimum Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.


Preferred qualifications:
Preference will be given to individuals who possess:

* Directly-related experience in electronic access control, intrusion alarm systems and closed circuit TV systems
* Directly-related experience in knowledge of standard radio and telephone communications
* Knowledge of operational procedures and methods used in daily operations of a police department
* Experience working in an educational institution
* Ability to operate computer equipment effectively utilizing word processing, Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
* Experience as a dispatcher
* Direct CAD and REJIS experience
* Additional training/certificates relating to the field of dispatching
* Security-related software (i.e. Key and lock control, access control)


Work Hours
Required to work any shift, morning, evening, overnight and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.


Compensation
The hiring salary range is $41,193-$43,664. A competitive benefit package is included.

Class Summary
This is the first level in the Campus Police series. Incumbents perform routine clerical, dispatching, patrolling and monitoring work related to campus safety and security.

Incumbents screen incoming emergency and non-emergency calls to determine location, nature of the call, gather information, and dispatch and assign appropriate personnel and resources to incidents. Major duties and responsibilities include: receiving and prioritizing incoming phone calls; answering alarms; dispatching Officer throughout the campus; monitoring campus buildings, cameras, and alarms; documenting and updating information in systems; and corresponding/sending emergency alerts to staff and students.

Typical Essential Duties
* Receives, screens, and prioritizes emergency and non-emergency calls for service; work may involve questioning the caller and soliciting information; answering inquiries/complaints; sending out messages to appropriate units as needed; and sending emergency alerts to staff and students.
* Dispatches appropriate personnel and resources to incidents; tracks calls and notifies appropriate individuals; makes referral to the City, County, and other Police and emergency services as needed; and provides assistance and information to the caller and dispatched units.
* Utilizes lockdown security systems to ensure campus building safety; monitors and/or responds to cameras and fire, equipment, and other alarms, to ensure student, staff, and public safety; informs appropriate units of incidents or safety violations; and tracks fire and police radio frequencies to assess potential impact of local incidents on the campus.
* Utilizes online systems, software, and databases to perform information searches, and document and update information.
* Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
